Medicare Rebate

It can be difficult to find clear and simple information relating to Medicare rebates and psychological services.

Anyone can access a Medicare rebate if they are experiencing mental health difficulties. But to be eligible to access a Medicare rebate you must first go to your GP, who will undertake a brief assessment of your situation. You need to be granted a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP. This will then allow you to gain a rebate back from Medicare on up to 10 psychology sessions per calendar year.

Steps involved

  1. The first step is to call us on 9786 6192 to obtain an appointment time and the name of one of our psychologists. You will need to provide this information to the GP.
  2.  Next, consult with your GP, who will ask you a few basic questions. For example: “During the last 30 days, about how often do you feel nervous”?
  3.  Then you bring the mental health treatment plan along with your Medicare card to us. Once you have paid for the session, you will then be able to access a rebate from Medicare.
  4. In any calendar year, you will be eligible to gain rebates for an initial 6 sessions. Your GP can also authorise  further sessions, up to 10 per year, if needed.

We provide psychology sessions  in person and  via telehealth (phone or video).

If it is your child experiencing difficulties and you would like them to access professional support then the GP needs to issue the mental health treatment plan in your child’s name.

Please call us on 9786 6192 for more information.
